Soshanguve youth keep busy through traditional
dance
Three parents
from Soshanguve Block PP formed a traditional dance group to keep the youth of
8 to 14 years old off the streets.
According to
group leader and trainer, France Mavhungu, the group was formed in June 2016 to
keep the children busy after school.
The group practise
daily and have plans of performing for a bigger crowd. Mavhungu mentioned that
the group was experiencing financial problems. He said they needed money for
food and transport.
“If we can
get any kind of donations we can appreciate it,” noted Mavhungu, “any donation
is acceptable.”
He said the
reason he brought those kids together is because he has a passion for sotho
traditional dance the same way the children have.
The groups’
proudest moment was when they performed at the Phinda mazala annual tournament, held at the giant stadium.
The event had
chiefs and pirates legends in attendance. Sara Mabathe, training assistant said
one of the benefits was that the youth avoided gambling.
