K Sporting stun defending champions Blue Birds in the quarter finals

Former champions K Sporting FC beat Blue Birds FC 2-0 and qualified for the semi-final during a super league cup tournament held at Giant stadium on Sunday afternoon.
They will go against the Highlanders in the semi-finals.

K Sporting began the tournament very poorly with two consecutive grabing 0-0 draws against Glamour Boys and Dynamics FC, leading to boos echoing around the stadium at the final whistle on both occasions.

However, any fears the K Sporting side would flatter to deceive at the tournament are quickly battered by their increasingly impressive performances in the playoffs.

The start of the match was a nervy affair with clumsy challenges coming in from both sides leading to plenty of fouls and yellow cards early on.

Mandla Tshabalala made most of the foul in the 12th minute as he stepped up to the free kick 35 yards from goal and fired K Sporting into the lead with a powerful strike.

Despite dominating for longer periods during the match, the home side waited until the 75th minute to secure a 2-0 win.

K Sporting coach Tshepiso Bodila said it was important for his team to carry on with the winning spirit.

Simphiwe Mashigo, man of the match for K Sporting said: “We deserved to win and we look forward to the next match”.

In the other match of the day, Thomas Mosena's 60th minute goal was all that separated the sides as Highlanders defeated Malty Killers 1-0 to advance to the super league cup semi-final for the first time in their history.
